Imperial IPA

We just released our Incline Imperial IPA.  This beer clocks in at a whopping 185.5 IBU’s and 10.5% ABV.  This is the hoppiest beer brewed in the Colorado Springs market.  The IBU (or International Bitterness Unit) is a calculated number, not an actual measured number.  You see as you increase the hop concentration and gravity (sugar) of the wort, hop utilization actually decreases.  It is very rare to get an actual measurement of more than 100 IBU’s out of a beer, but folks nowadays like to use the calculated number instead of actually measuring the IBU’s.  I created this beer because a patron was remarking to me that our award-winning Elephant Rock IPA wasn’t hoppy enough.
